Robohands – Shapes
London-based multi-instrumentalist Robohands’ third album, ‘Shapes,’ blends jazz, krautrock, hip hop, and ambient music, drawing inspiration from artists like Khruangbin, Yusef Dayes, and CAN. The solo project of composer Andy Baxter, Shapes incorporates soul, funk, Latin, and experimental moods, featuring collaborations with musicians like John Clark. Inspired by 1970s library music, the album combines vintage and modern instruments and production techniques, with nods to 1990s Mo Wax artists. Recorded partly at Buffalo Studios in London and partly at Andy’s home due to COVID restrictions, ‘Shapes’ includes vintage snares and unique recording techniques for a nostalgic yet futuristic sound.
